American Asthma Foundation and Allergies (AAFA) is Developing a Research Program on Food Allergy

       American Asthma Foundation and Allergies (AAFA) is developing a research program on food allergy.

       According to statistics 50 million of  Americans have some allergies, adults 4 % and 6% percent of children suffer from food allergies. Children who in their medical history have such diagnosis, up to 4 times are more likely to suffer from asthma or other types of allergy.

       To study this program the committee on food allergies proposed to involve the relevant institutions, namely state bodies, academic institutions, industry institutions and even politicians patient organizations, parent groups and doctors.

       These stakeholders will provide information on issues related to food allergy, including: prevalence, severity and impact of food allergies, current methods of diagnosis, treatment, prevention, public policy.

 

       In her press release Linda Mitchell, senior vice president of AAFA said: “We know how important is the study of food allergies and we have the honor to represent this community of our patients.”

       American Asthma Foundation and Allergies (AAFA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1953 . It is the leading patient organization for people suffering from asthma, allergies and related diseases. AAFA gathers practical information, provides medical education, develops state programs on the support of research funds in order to find the best treatments and therapies.

     Special attention is given to children who suffer from food allergies. In the US Asthma Foundation and Allergies there is a separate unit that deals with this issue – (KFA). KFA offers free educational programs for families and carers, webinars. It has developed an electronic database of allergens and much more. The website KFA is the largest and most active online resource. Here, parents and educators have an opportunity to talk with others about the education of children who have food allergies and related diseases. KFA was established to support families in 2005. In 2013 – KFA became a unit of the American Foundation of Asthma and Allergies.
