In Lviv volunteers together with social workers held street informational event, during which they told passers-by about the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary hypertension .

The event within the project “Early diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension in Lviv region” was funded by the American Association of pulmonary hypertension and  “Tom Lantos” Grant.

It  began on the square at the Lviv Opera. Volunteers and social workers, wearing the same purple jackets, which symbolizes the fight against the rare disease – pulmonary hypertension, went to the main streets of the city, handing over informational  leaflets to passers-by.

President of the Charitable Foundation of “Sister Delila” and Director of NGO ” Pulmonary Hypertension – Ukrainian Rare Disease Association” Oksana Kulish said, that pulmonary hypertension is a rapidly progressive disease of the lungs, which leads to cardiovascular disease, and with late detection – to transplantation or death. This disease is very dangerous as it has similar symptoms with other diseases, so it is often difficult to diagnose.

“We know about 20 people in the Lviv region suffering from pulmonary hypertension. Our goal is to inform Lviv residents on the importance of early diagnosis of this disease, since the early stages of its treatment is cheap, safe and effective, “- told Zahid Oksana Kulish.

Volunteers and social workers urged passers-by to take care of themselves, and in case they or their relatives feel shortness of breath, rapid and constant fatigue, have bluish lips and fingertips – immediately contact a doctor.

The leaflets, given people by volunteers, includes phone number of support for patients with pulmonary hypertension – (097) -151-09-01, where everyone, who has symptoms of this disease can call. Here people can make an appointment for consultation of a specialist or doctor and, if necessary, get legal and social assistance.

The event was supported by Lviv city council deputy of the political party “Samopomich”,  acting director of the Lviv City Center of Social Services for Families, Children and Youth – Rubai Oksana, Lviv city council deputy of the political party “Hromadianska pozyciia” – Igor Wan, a leading TV channel “TRK-Lviv”, TV program “Give hope” – Iryna Meleshko, operator of the TV channel “TRK-Lviv” – Dmitro, and simple passers-by.

Uniting of government officials, media, volunteers, social workers and ordinary passers-by is the key to overcome information barriers related to pulmonary hypertension issues, improvement of access to diagnosis for potential patients and treatment of pulmonary hypertension.

P.S .: DO NOT STAY ASIDE!

AFTER ALL, EARLY DIAGNOSIS WORTH  A LIFE !!!
