Svitlana dreams of what many of us find natural – just breathing deeply, without pain and constant shortness of breath. Due to a severe lung disease, her heart works on the verge of exhaustion every day.

What’s the problem?
In 2017, Svitlana’s life was divided into “before” and “after”. The diagnosis was pulmonary embolism. Severe shortness of breath and the risk of cardiac arrest led to the woman being put on the waiting list for a heart and lung transplant.

The only way out:
Instead of an extremely complex transplant, doctors offer a chance at life through a course of balloon angioplasty of the pulmonary arteries. Such operations are not performed in Ukraine.

The first procedure has already taken place in Poland – and it worked! Svitlana’s breathing has become easier, her heart has stabilized.

But you can’t stop: to consolidate the result and survive, you need a few more interventions.

The price of one step to recovery: PLN 52,000 (UAH 630,240). Temporary protection in Poland no longer provides free access to treatment for unemployed Ukrainians.

Unfortunately, due to her serious condition and disability, Svitlana cannot work and pay for treatment on her own.
